There are currently 33 million people living with HIV across the world.
68% of HIV positive adults worldwide and 90% of the children live in Sub-Saharan Africa. This region includes countries like South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe.
More than 76% of the total deaths from HIV/AIDS in 2007 occurred in Sub-Saharan Africa.
Every day 6,800 people become infected with HIV.
Every day more than 5,700 people die from HIV/AIDS. This is a reduction from past estimates likely to be due to better epidemiological data and access to treatment.
